Every hardscape we build starts below the surface. Ontario's freeze-thaw cycle is what destroys paving, so excavation depth, compacted granular base and proper drainage decide whether the work still looks right in ten years. The stone is the finish, not the foundation.
Interlock Driveways
A paver driveway replaces cracked, heaving asphalt with a surface that can be lifted and reset rather than torn out. We excavate to frost depth, compact granular base in layers, and set 80mm driveway-rated pavers with proper edge restraint so the perimeter does not spread under vehicle load. Drainage is graded away from the garage and foundation on every job.
Patios & Pool Surrounds
A patio is the surface a backyard is organised around, so it has to be flat, well drained and large enough to actually use. We build in large-format slabs or traditional pavers depending on the look you want, and around pools we specify textured, slip-resistant stone that stays cooler underfoot. Grading always moves water away from the house and the pool shell.
Walkways, Steps & Front Entrances
The front entrance is the part of a hardscape everyone sees and the part most likely to become a hazard. Settled concrete steps and lifted walkway slabs are a genuine trip risk once frost has moved them a few seasons. We rebuild entrances in nature stone or interlock with consistent riser heights, proper landings and edging that holds the line permanently.
Retaining Walls & Armour Stone
A retaining wall turns a slope into usable flat ground and stops soil washing out over time. Height, drainage and backfill determine whether a wall holds — we install weeping tile and clear stone behind the wall so water has somewhere to go instead of pushing the face outward. We build in engineered block or armour stone depending on scale and the look of the property.
